Description
The Milwaukee 2688-20 M18 Compact Heat Gun gives tradespeople and DIY users cordless heat for a variety of workshop and installation tasks. Powered by the Milwaukee M18 battery platform, this compact tool provides portability when a corded heat gun would be inconvenient. Its quick heat-up, guarded nozzle, and integrated LED make it a practical choice for professionals who need controlled heat in tight working areas.
Milwaukee 2688-20 M18 Compact Heat Gun Features
This compact heat gun reaches operating temperature in less than seven seconds, according to Milwaukee. That quick start helps reduce waiting time between applications, particularly when you move between several small tasks throughout the day.
The tool produces temperatures up to approximately 875°F (468°C), with airflow rated at 6 cubic feet per minute. These specifications make it suitable for compatible heat-shrink applications, loosening certain adhesives, and other tasks that require localized heat. Always check material requirements before applying heat, because excessive temperature can damage surfaces or create hazardous fumes.
Compact Design for Everyday Work
At approximately 6.4 inches long, the Milwaukee 2688-20 fits into tighter spaces than many traditional heat guns. Its guarded nozzle helps protect nearby work surfaces from accidental contact, while the integrated ladder hook lets you hang the tool between applications when a suitable location is available.
The built-in LED helps illuminate the immediate work area, especially in dim corners, cabinets, or service spaces. Its pistol-style grip supports familiar handling, and the cordless design removes the need to position an extension cord near every task.
M18 Battery Compatibility and Performance
The Milwaukee 2688-20 works with Milwaukee M18 REDLITHIUM battery packs. Milwaukee reports that an XC5.0 battery can heat more than 40 connections per charge under its stated application conditions. Actual results vary with the task, battery condition, temperature, and time spent applying heat.
REDLINK PLUS intelligence provides electronic temperature management designed to help protect the tool and support its service life. The tool-only model does not automatically include a battery or charger, so review the exact listing before ordering. If you already own compatible M18 batteries, you may be able to use your existing battery setup.
For manufacturer specifications, visit the official Milwaukee 2688-20 product page. Review the official operator’s manual before use, and explore the Milwaukee M18 cordless system to learn more about compatible tools and batteries.
Safety and Suitable Applications
This heat gun may suit electricians, installers, repair technicians, maintenance workers, and DIY users who need portable heat for appropriate tasks. Keep the hot nozzle away from skin, flammable materials, and sensitive surfaces. Never leave the operating tool unattended, and allow it to cool completely before storage or accessory changes.
Use adequate ventilation, especially when heating plastics, coatings, adhesives, or other materials that may release fumes. Follow the material manufacturer’s instructions and wear suitable eye protection. Avoid directing heat toward people, animals, or hidden wiring.
