Description
The DEWALT DW272 drywall screwdriver is a heavy-duty corded tool designed for drywall installers, construction contractors, and renovation professionals who need consistent fastening throughout the workday. Its 6.3-amp motor delivers variable speeds up to 4,000 RPM, helping users drive drywall screws efficiently into suitable drywall and framing assemblies. The comfortable grip, depth-sensitive nosepiece, and durable gearing make this screwdriver a practical choice for repetitive interior construction tasks.
Reliable Performance for Drywall Installation
The DEWALT DW272 drywall screwdriver combines variable-speed control with a high-speed transmission designed for production drywall installation. Its motor runs from 0 to 4,000 RPM, allowing users to adjust speed through the trigger to suit the task. This control helps installers manage screw placement while working across wall panels, ceilings, and other approved fastening applications.
The tool delivers up to 81 inch-pounds of torque and supports fasteners up to size #8, according to DEWALT specifications. Its standard clutch supports controlled screw driving, while the depth-sensitive nosepiece helps maintain consistent fastener depth. Correct depth matters when attaching drywall because overdriven screws can damage the paper facing, while underdriven screws may prevent proper finishing.
Depth-Sensitive Nosepiece and Comfortable Handling
The adjustable nosepiece uses a “set and forget” design. Once you set the depth for your application, it helps produce consistent results across repeated fastening operations. This feature can reduce the need to check every screw individually, although you should still inspect your work to confirm that fasteners meet the installation requirements.
DEWALT also designed the DW272 with a two-finger trigger and rubber grip for comfortable handling. The ergonomic pistol-grip shape supports control during repetitive use, while the metal gear housing helps protect internal components on demanding jobsites. Helical-cut steel gears receive heat treatment to support durability during regular professional use.
Corded Power for Consistent Workflow
The DW272 uses a corded electrical power supply, so it does not rely on rechargeable batteries. This can suit workshops and construction sites with dependable access to suitable electrical outlets. Its corded design also means you should plan cable routing carefully to keep the cord away from sharp edges, moving equipment, and walkways.
The screwdriver weighs approximately 3.1 pounds as a tool, according to DEWALT specifications. This relatively lightweight design helps users maneuver around wall frames and ceiling installations. The tool is intended for drywall fastening rather than drilling holes or performing heavy-duty structural screw driving. Choose fasteners appropriate for the substrate, and follow the project specifications.
For accurate product information, visit the official DEWALT DW272 product page, review the DW272 instruction manual, and consult DEWALT’s corded power tools information. These resources help confirm specifications, operating instructions, and maintenance requirements.
Safe Use and Maintenance
Before use, inspect the power cord, plug, nosepiece, and housing for damage. Use an appropriate extension cord only when permitted by the manual, and keep electrical connections away from moisture. Wear suitable eye protection, secure the work area, and follow safe electrical practices. Disconnect the tool from power before cleaning, adjusting the nosepiece, or performing maintenance.
