Description
The Milwaukee M18 FUEL abrasive chop saw is designed for metalworkers, contractors, fabricators, and construction professionals who need portable cutting power on demanding jobsites. Model 2990-20 features a 14-inch abrasive wheel and a brushless motor, making it suitable for cutting compatible metal stock, steel studs, and other materials within its rated capacity. Its cordless design helps you work across jobsite areas without relying on a nearby electrical outlet.
Cordless Power for Metal Cutting
Milwaukee equips this chop saw with a POWERSTATE brushless motor that runs at 4,000 RPM. The manufacturer states that the tool delivers cutting performance comparable to a 15-amp corded chop saw, helping professionals handle metal-cutting tasks with the convenience of the M18 battery platform. REDLINK PLUS intelligence helps manage performance and protect the tool and battery against overload, overheating, and over-discharge.
The 14-inch wheel supports a maximum cut capacity of five inches. This makes the saw useful for cutting compatible metal studs, rods, and other suitable workpieces. Actual cutting results depend on material type, thickness, wheel condition, and setup. Always use an abrasive wheel rated for the material and the saw’s specified speed.
Convenient Adjustments and Blade Control
The Milwaukee M18 FUEL abrasive chop saw includes tool-free blade changes, helping simplify wheel replacement when the wheel wears or the application changes. Its tool-free fence adjustment lets users reposition the fence without searching for additional tools, making common setup changes easier during repetitive cutting work.
RAPID STOP braking is designed to stop the wheel within three seconds after trigger release, according to Milwaukee. An overload indicator light helps guide the operator toward an appropriate cutting pace. These features support more controlled operation, but users must still keep guards in place and follow the operating manual for every cut.
Battery Performance and Kit Options
Milwaukee reports up to 200 cuts per charge through 3-5/8-inch 20-gauge steel studs when the saw is paired with an M18 REDLITHIUM HIGH OUTPUT HD12.0 battery under the manufacturer’s test conditions. Your results may vary depending on the material, wheel, battery condition, and cutting technique.
Model 2990-20 is the tool-only version. It includes the M18 FUEL 14-inch abrasive chop saw but does not include a battery or charger. If you need those items, the 2990-21HD kit includes the saw, one M18 REDLITHIUM HIGH OUTPUT HD12.0 battery pack, and an M18/M12 rapid charger. Confirm the exact model and package contents before ordering.
For verified specifications and safe operation, consult Milwaukee’s official 2990-20 product page, review the 2990-21HD kit page, and read the manufacturer’s abrasive wheel safety guidance. These resources help you confirm compatible accessories, included components, and operating requirements.
Use the Chop Saw Safely
Before cutting, secure the workpiece firmly and inspect the abrasive wheel for damage. Keep the guard installed, use appropriate eye and hearing protection, and keep sparks away from flammable materials. Do not force the wheel through the workpiece. Allow it to reach full speed before making contact, and wait for the wheel to stop completely before moving the saw or handling the cut material.
