Description
The DEWALT 20V MAX Lithium-Ion Brushless Planer helps woodworkers smooth rough boards, trim sticking doors, refine edges, and prepare timber for a clean fit. Model DCP580B combines cordless convenience with a brushless motor, making it a practical option for carpentry, renovation, cabinetry, and workshop projects. If you want controlled material removal without managing a power cord, this planer offers useful adjustment features in a portable design.
Key Features of the DEWALT 20V MAX Brushless Planer
The DCP580B runs on the DEWALT 20V MAX battery platform and uses a brushless motor designed to maintain speed under load. Its 3-1/4-inch planing width suits common board edges and smaller surfaces, while the calibrated depth knob supports fine adjustments for more controlled passes. The maximum cut depth is 5/64 inch, or approximately 2 mm, helping you remove material gradually rather than taking an unnecessarily deep cut.
The planer delivers up to 30,000 cuts per minute. Precision-machined aluminum front and rear shoes help keep the tool aligned across the workpiece, supporting consistent results when you guide it evenly. A front-shoe groove makes edge chamfering easier, and the built-in kickstand lets you set the planer down while helping protect the surface beneath it. An ergonomic handle supports a comfortable grip during routine woodworking tasks.
Practical Uses Around the Workshop
Use a hand planer to level high spots, adjust a door that catches, fit boards during installation, or smooth uneven timber before assembly. It can also help with edge work and light stock removal during furniture repairs and renovation projects. Make shallow passes; inspect the surface between cuts.

Work Safely and Maintain Your Planer
Wear suitable eye and hearing protection, secure the material, and keep hands away from the cutter area. Disconnect the battery before inspecting or changing blades, and follow the instruction manual for adjustments, maintenance, and safe operation. Check blades regularly; dull or damaged blades can affect finish quality and increase the chance of uneven cuts. Read the DEWALT planers overview to explore the brand’s planer lineup.
Choose the DEWALT 20V MAX Lithium-Ion Brushless Planer when you need portable control for everyday wood-shaping and fitting tasks. Its cordless platform, fine depth adjustment, and compact 3-1/4-inch capacity make it useful for trim work, repairs, and workshop projects. Before purchasing, confirm whether your existing battery is compatible and whether the listing includes a battery or charger.
